“The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds the most discoveries, is not "Eureka!" (I found it!) but 'That's funny...”
- Isaac Asimov IMPORTANT INFORMATION We still need one more volunteer for the Tunisia presentation on Wednesday morning. IMPORTANT DATES December 19: Last Day to Donate for the We Club December 20: Teacher’s Pet In-Class Presentation & Stations (morning) December 20: Fun Lunch (Boston Pizza) December 20: Report Cards sent home December 21: Winter Party (1:30 - 2:30) December 21: Last School day before Winter Break December 22: PD Day - No school for students OUR DAY 69 days under our belt, 111 days to go! Today, we continued our exploration of numbers, comparing 26 and 206, with specifically looking at what is the ‘0’. Some ideas that came up during our discussion were the zero is a place-holder, and that the zero counts as a number. We played 4-Corners Treasure Island with Ms England’s class, a tag/strategy game. Ask your child how it is played. After Music, I read The One and Only Ivan to the class. Our discussions have gone towards different zoos, natural habitats, mall-zoos, cages, ad sanctuaries, and the impact it has on animals, and humans. Students also wrote a prediction of what they think will happen to Ivan and Ruby in the story. I clarified with the students that they need to pull out information (evidence) from the book to support their opinion, and that predictions are not feelings or personal wishes. Students got individual shots of themselves in the photo booths from last night’s Family Winter Event. They were definitely a big hit. The pictures will go into their journals, along with a response of the process leading up it. We finished off our day with Scattergories (one of my favourites), a game where students have to come up with a given item beginning with a given letter. This is a good way for students to think up more descriptive words. Have a fabulous weekend! Cheerios! Ms Lauf Comments are closed.
