Today, I sent the students on a scavenger hunt in Peru, while I was away I the morning, and the lovely Ms Temple was in. Students also worked on their arpilleras. We will build up the scenes tomorrow. In the afternoon, we worked on our acrostic poems, and they are coming along nicely! We have been using a dictionary and thesaurus to help find different and more descriptive words. In between all this, they had indoor recess (Boo windchill!), Lunch, and gym. In gym, we are practicing our gymnastics abilities, in particular parties poses and different point-balances. Cheerios! Ms Lauf IMPORTANT INFORMATION Nothing to see here. Welcome back! We hit the ground running today. The day started off with meeting our new friend to the class with a getting-to-know you activity. Ask your child how this worked! After music, we shared with our table groups what we did over the break, then the students mingled, sharing with each other, and finishing off with brainstorming ideas on the board for a reference. This was a precursor to a journalling activity where students wrote and illustrated what they did. We will finish this up tomorrow. After recess and a few more chapters of The One and Only Ivan, we filled in the K (what I Know) part of the KWL chart, and wrote Ws (What I Wonder) on sticky notes. I will add these for tomorrow, as we begin our Peru centres fully and completely. After lunch, we watched a video about hearing, and then discussed key points from it. We also worked on the next step for our “I Am…” acrostic poem, which is selecting the one thing (general), and then brainstorming the specifics. Tomorrow will be the rough copy, and then the good copy will go in their Poetry section in their visual journals. It is getting chilly out there! I am passing on a gentle reminder to remember gloves and toques. Cheerios! Ms Lauf |
